Earth, Wind & Fire is arguably the most successful R&B group of all time. The band has an incredible crossover appeal; their music is perfect for barbecues, can be played at any family gathering, and you've likely unknowingly heard their music playing in department stores across the nation. With over 100 million records sold during their domination of the charts in the '70s and '80s, including hit songs like "Shining Star," "That's the Way of the World," "September," "Devotion," "Let's Groove" and more, as well as becoming the first black act to ever sell out Madison Square Garden, the band's commercial success is undeniable.

Led by frontman Maurice White — may he rest in peace — the band's success can be attributed to their attention to detail and unique sound. Through the dichotomy of White's sultry baritone and Philip Bailey's incredible falsetto, their use of horns, and attention to harmonies and groove, the band quickly became one of the most best-selling bands of all time. Earth, Wind & Fire also won 8 Grammys (6 as a band, with White and Bailey each winning one individually), are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and even have five — five! — members inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
